MIKE SCYPHERS, CAMP DIRECTOR
Mike Scyphers brings a wealth of expertise, knowledge and experience to the camp scene. He has been officiating over the span of the last 5 decades. Mike started his officiating career after playing 4 years of college basketball at Cal State University, Northridge.
In just a short time, he was invited to a Pac 10 tryout camp in 1982 in which he was hired into the conference. From there, Scyphers has gone on to officiate over 1600 Men’s Division 1 basketball games. He has worked 20 Men’s NCAA Division 1 tournaments. In those 20 years, he has whistled over 30 tournament games highlighted by an East Regional Final in 2007 played by North Carolina and Georgetown. He currently officiates in 6 different Division 1 conferences: Pac 12, Mountain West, West Coast, Big West, Western Athletic, and Big Sky. Scyphers has officiated 19 Big West Conference Tournament Championship games as well as several PAC, MWC, and WCC conference tournaments.
Scyphers’ professional career was that of an educator at Simi Valley High School for 37 years. His background in education has made him an excellent presenter and teacher the last several years at the Western Officiating Consortium basketball clinics held for all Division 1 officials in the Western United States.
He was also regarded as one the top high school baseball coaches in Southern California during his 17 year stint. His teams of 1986 & 1993 were ranked #1 nationally.
Mike and his wife Sally reside in Camarillo. They have 3 grown children, Kelly (Keith), Krista, and Brett. They are also proud grandparents of 3 children.
